Vegemite, Marmite and Promite

Personally...Marmite is british, so its got nothing :p

As for vegemite Vs promite, I think that Vegemite wins hands down..I dont get these spreads to have some half arsed soy/salty sorta flavoured spread...Vegemite is the real deal, and is the best...

I know lots of people who claim to be aussies, that disagree, what about all you aussies here?

Also, any foreigners that have tasted any of these, post your thoughts :alex:

briggzy 15-05-2003 10:29:PM

Yeah, but ur English :p (well atleast come from England)

Atleast Aussies have marmite over here, unlike you guys, who dont have Vegemite!

hehe..Actually ive never tried Marmite, I have the other two..But Ive been told Marmite is closer to vegemite, and that would make sense, since those two are both Yeast Extract, Promite is Vegetable Extract  :alex:

I much prefer marmite over vegemite. They are similar, but marmite has a stronger taste, and is much darker.

But yeah, given the choice, I would go for marmite everytime. And I am NOT english. As for promite, I don't bother at all.

briggzy 15-05-2003 11:06:PM

theres a saying here in england 'You either love it or hate marmite' i must say i love it :rockman:

Marmite stronger and darker!
Damn, it must be potent stuff :p

Atleast it tastes similar, to me, that means both are tops :D

yeah, you're not english...but Kiwis are even worse :p

Im glad you dont both with promite...its just Vegemite, that is a bit sweeter, and has a very distinct taste similar to that of soy IMO...horrible stuff...

Darker and stronger...funny u mention that, because it has been a belief of me and my brothers for a long time, that the vegemite that you get in those little sachets (at hospitals, motels etc), is stronger, and a little darker..We also think that it is a bit stickier or something too...Dunno why, you'd think itd be the same stuff

Yep, by the sounds of things its very similar to Vegemite :D

Foreigners never like it tho...basically I think you have to grow up eating the stuff, because the taste is pretty strong, and could shock you if you're not ready for it ;)

Yeah, I guess they are similar, the best thing is to imagine a continuum of sweetness, with promite at one end, vegemite in the middle, and marmite as the least sweet.

And we Kiwi's must be worse, we are the original 'little england'.

I'll stick to peanut butter.

Last time I tried one of those pasty salty spready foods I had to peel it off of my tonque with a paper towel....

PhiLLer 15-05-2003 11:53:PM

Sounds like an enjoyable experience!:D
I like Marmite but for some strange reason it reminds me of ants every time I hear the word Marmite. Although nothing beats peanut butter, with the whole peanuts in it. Excellent!

mhflierman 17-05-2003 11:17:AM

We've got marmite here in Holland. I think it's disgusting. :-puke: :mrpimp: (H)

man united forever 17-05-2003 12:14:PM

Vegemite, Marmite or Promite?
:-puke:,:-puke: and....:-puke:
Meh I've only ever had marmite - or was that vegemite? they all taste the same.

I dont even know if you can aquire these :p

You have to grow up with it I think...However, half the problem with people trying it, is that they go into it thinking itll taste bad, AND they also dont know what they should prepare the taste buds for, because the taste is hard to describe...

briggzy 17-05-2003 04:27:PM

I used to eat Marmite sandwiches....then i moved on to mint sauce :kader:

mufc_daddy 20-05-2003 05:58:AM

I'm allergic to Marmite, but all of those mites have a mighty discusting taste.

choppy 20-05-2003 06:02:AM

Dude I think all of those mites are causing some issues inside your brain. Promites way cooler than the others. I'm Aussie and I hate Vegemite.

Then i guess i "mite" have to fly over to your house so that you can feel the "mite" of my chop that will crush u and your country.

choppy 20-05-2003 06:11:AM

Your country doesn't seem to be doing too much of anything to our country at the moment. Ask your Cricket, Rugby, League and as much as I'm prepared for the backlash SOCCER teams.
